New Media Cloud paper at ICWSM’26

Thanks to prior NSF support we’ve been working over the last two years to rebuild the ingestion pipeline for our online news archive. Earlier this year we finished reprocessing all our historical data and now you can search almost 2 billion global news articles at search.mediacloud.org. To document this effort we’ve got a new dataset paper coming this May at the 20th International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media: Media Cloud 2.0: An Updated Open Web News Archive. Once it is published in the proceedings please plan to cite this paper in any research you’ve got coming out. And come say hi if you’ll be there as well!

In Berlin this fall! 🇩🇪🍁

Exited to share I’ll be a visiting researcher at the UCLab at the Fachhochschule Potsdam University of Applied Sciences this coming fall semester (you’re hearing it first!). I’ve got a sabbatical and am excited to explore new work in the digital humanities space with the lab there. If you’re in the broader area drop me a line, I’ll be traveling around Europe making new connections.

Public Talks

I’ve continued on the book tour related to Community Data! Workshops at C+J and UW Madison, talks at NICAR, NYC Open Data Week, Yale, Conn and an upcoming panel here at home on civic data theatre. Join that last one online Tue April 14th @ 12pm (Boston time) if you’re interested to connect on the growing data theatre work.

This is the first newsletter I’m sending from beehiv, a new mailing list service I’m using. I hope it comes through OK! Let me know if you see anything odd. Thanks 👍🏽
